I’m not gonna lie, I was like a giddy little school girl as I headed to Erin Barr, my first stop at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week. I was greeted at Milk Studios on the tres hip west side of the island by an all-black clad crew ready to check me into the joint. The large showroom had a Mad Men feel, except this story was all about the women. A dozen twiggy-legged models with pin-curls and side swept updoos stood, sat and sprawled around vintage furniture while languidly listening to records, reading fashion magazines and having hush-hush chit chats. The collection was one for the books. Barr’s use of simple black, white, grey, and red kept everyone’s attention. She used classic striped prints on a fitted black collared shirt, mixed in a black leather jacket and showed some must-have red cropped pants. An array of sleek solid-colored dresses featured intriquing bodice cutouts. Any girl would be lucky to sport one of these on a warm New York night. Or in San Francisco as long as she brought a sweater. They weren’t kidding when they said Erin Barr was an up-and-coming New York designer to keep an eye on.
