Brooklyn designer Samantha Pleet became a fast favorite of mine when I saw her Spring/Summer 2010 presentation (it didn’t hurt that the afterparty was at Manhattan’s Classic Car Club). Since then she has launched several other successful collections, landed a collaboration with Anthropologie (I am dying for the Trident trench) and designed a line of boots for Wolverine. The boots are each named after a female adventurer, and I would be very happy if all of them marched their way directly into my closet.
That sense of outdoor adventure pursued in an ultra-chic manner is a consistent theme throughout her collections. Her pants make it seem like wearing pants is a risky new thing for a woman. Her dresses are prim but also sexy, with their midriff cutouts that have become Pleet’s signature. Another signature are her wide-brimmed hats, which often appear on her models as well as Pleet herself, and again they lend the sense of a girl on the go. Here are some of my faves from her latest collection, which includes more Wolverine boots! The blue ones are really wonderful.
