The ’90s and overalls-wearing seem to be a theme around here lately, and that was also the case on certain runways during New York fashion week. Ruffian design duo Brian Wolk and Claude Morais sent 35 models down the catwalk in printed silk getups, some of them featuring overalls, and all of them punctuated by Chuck Taylor Converse sneakers. (And again with the conductor stripes!)
Combined with the rockstar hair and oversized shirts, the looks were hard for me to take. Being a child of the ’90s myself, they may have struck a little too close to home. The tomboy aesthetic reminded me of my little sister in backwards baseball hats and tutus. Also: the show was a jarring reminder that I wore pink Chuck Taylors to my prom. But I did love some of their blazers without hesitation. What do you guys think? Should overalls and Chucks stay in the ’90s, or do you look forward to sporting these looks come spring?
