A Quest for the Perfect Winter Clogs

January 24, 2017 by Kristen Philipkoski Filed Under: Family, Fashion, Outfits 2 Comments

Do you ever just get completely OBSESSED with hunting online for that perfect whatever (pair of jeans, sweater, shoes, whatever), and later feel sad about how many hours you’ve sunk down that rabbit hole? Just me? Well, I became obsessed with finding a particular style of clogs when, during the holidays, we decided they’d be my husband’s Christmas gift to me. My longtime favorite go-to pair are an eBay score from about 15 years ago in the traditional open-back slip-on style. But it’s been really rainy and cold in the Bay Area, and I was on the hunt for shearling-lined clogs that I could slip on and off to take the kids to school, work my shift at the Co-Op, go grocery shopping, all the while having cozy feet.I found many possibilities, but none of them satisfied both my style and comfort demands—with, possibly, the exception of these No.6 shearling clog boots, but at $380 they are a little more than I predicted the husband would spend (not that I’ve ruled them out).I don’t even want to know how many hours I wasted on my quest, and the ironic thing is that instead, I bought these green, high-heeled, not-very-practical knee-high clog boots by Sanita. They were the last pair I could find anywhere and I figured if I cannot have my dream boots I will at least have some dreamy ones, even if I won’t be wearing them to Costco. And they’re not SO impractical—I’ve already worn them twice (one of the times being for these photos but I’m saying it counts because we also went to eat a Salumeria after). The other part of the outfit I wanted to call out is the denim jacket with iron-on patches from Wrangler. I was pretty excited when the brand got in touch wanting to collaborate to promote their new, retro patches. Wrangler is one of those heritage brands that brings back fond memories of my childhood. I distinctly remember, circa first grade, when my neighborhood friend Brent Walker paid me a visit wearing Wrangler jeans. I was wearing Wranglers that day, too! We played on my swing set—it had monkey bars.  I recall nothing else of the encounter.

Oh! And these amazing rings are on loan from Marmol Radziner Jewelry—GAH. I guess I don’t need to say that I never want to give them back! 🙂

And we’ve seen this Marc by Marc Jacobs dress before so I won’t go on about it—except to say that I was really excited to pair it with the denim jacket wth patches because I imagined all the jewel tones would be kind of great together. Frida dressed herself, as if I have any choice anymore! If you scroll to the end you’ll also notice that Frida got ahold of my lipstick while we weren’t paying attention. Welcome to my life. Don’t let that saintly smile fool you.
WEARING: Marc by Marc Jacobs dress, similar here, here and here (also seen here on Frida); Wrangler denim jacket, wrangler patches; Sanita clog boots, similar here, here and here.
