A Wedding, a New Year and a Gold Dress

Hello from Florida! I’m actually back from my trip to Florida, but I’m pretending I’m speaking to you from this photo. Hey! Just chilling here at St. Pete’s Beach in Florida. Our friends Jeff and Erin got hitched here.

The bride and groom partook of a curious supposedly German tradition of sawing wood (?!) during the ceremony. Yep they sawed all the way through and it didn't take nearly as long as I worried it would.

It was a lovely beach wedding, but we actually took most of these photos the day after the wedding because yesterday, the day of the wedding, we were lounging at the beach, Frida was running around in the sand, and we were laughing about how scary-aggressive the seagulls were about food (they literally snatched food right out of our hands), when I realized it was 3pm and the wedding started at 4:30. And I had to wash my hair!

This photo was taken just about an hour before we had to be back at this very same beach for the wedding.

Somehow we did it: we made our way back to the AirBnB and I got myself + a 3-year-old completely ready in less than an hour. But there was no time to document outfits, which I really wanted to do because I’ve owned this Lanvin dress for a couple years and have only worn it once. And I know I’m biased but I thought Frida looked quite cute.

So today we dusted off our outfits and put them on again and headed outside. It was our last day in Florida and it was cold and raining, just like Pacifica!

Frida used the tulle on her dress to collect rocks.

The keyhole on the dress is plunging but I decided not to care if my braw was showing. I just wore a pretty lacy one and called it a day.

I’ve been giving up on contact lenses lately. They are really uncomfortable for me. So I bought these glasses—they’re shiny and gold so I figure they go with everything.

And I couldn’t find my prescription sunglasses before we left on our trip, but I discovered the beauty of clip-ons!! They were $9.99 at the Beach Mart and I kind of dig the way they look. The drawback is they made my glasses super heavy, so they slid down a lot. But I adjusted the nose-grip thingies and that helped a little.

As I mentioned, I was excited to wear this dress because it’s kind of a kaftan-beachy style, but it’s also shiny and fancy enough for a New Year’s wedding. It came with a sash but I was feeling the carefree look. I bought it deeply discounted and, if I remember correctly, with a pretty hefty gift certificate, at The Outnet in 2013.

This is one of the few photos we have from the actual wedding day.
