Shortly after my husband and I moved from San Francisco to Pacifica, a beach town 12 miles south of the city, Dylan, a friend from New York, stood on our deck, looked out at the Pacific and said: “You live in #@!$ing California now!” I had lived in California for 20 years, but I totally knew what he meant.
Looking at the Pacific Ocean every day is a constant reminder of the magic of where we live: the way we do bohemian style (both personal and home versions), how we are forever young even when we’re getting older, the munchkins we’re raising, the surprises around every corner, and so much more. I wouldn’t live anywhere else, though Southern California’s charms have seduced me over the years, and I’m grateful to have family down there whom I visit often. The Golden State’s legacy of freedom, adventure, and decadence is the inspiration behind everything I write about here.
It’s like beatnik, but with style.
