Earlier this year I went public with my age. Not that I was lying about it or actively trying to keep it a secret, but I didn’t volunteer the information. I certainly didn’t have the year of my birth on my Facebook account, but now I do. Maybe it was getting fired or maybe it’s just getting older and more comfortable with myself, but I had an epiphany that I want to be as honest about who I am as possible. So now anyone who cares is welcome to the information that I am 46 years old.
That doesn’t mean I’m 100% comfortable with all the changes that come with getting older. I’m not that enlightened, yet! Maybe that will come in my… sixties? For now, I’m always looking for the next, more scientifically-advance product to make my skin look healthy. And the opportunity to collaborate with Olay Regenerist came at the perfect time, because there was an all-out war taking place on my face.
Just a week before I was scheduled to appear on a style panel at Poshmark’s Poshfest, my forehead erupted in cystic acne that I swear was more severe than anything I had as a teenager (you would think that at this age I would not get acne! Why god why!!). Naturally, I attacked my skin with every anti-acne medicine I could get my hands on, thereby adding severe dryness to my acne problem. It was not pretty. Luckily I sat at a distance from the audience on the panel.
The Regenerist Advanced Anti-Aging micro-sculpting cream helped restore some balance. All that drying had emphasized the lines on my face, and after the first application of this rich cream my face was hydrated and my lines were less evident. And thank god the acne has mostly disappeared.
Using any type of moisturizer is something I’ve feared since my teens. I always had oily, acne-prone skin and I lived in fear of looking shiny. Pressed powder is still my best friend. But now in my 40s, I’m finally admitting that moisturizer is necessary. And if I can use one that makes me look younger, all the better. At night before going to bed, I use the sculpting cream after cleansing. If I’m feeling particularly oily, which happens a couple of times a week I skip it. But weirdly I find that on mornings after I’ve used acne treatments rather than a moisturizer, my face feels extra oily. Clearly it’s all about finding a balance, which I’ve never really been good at. Maybe that will come next decade. I’ll keep you posted!
Olay is a worldwide leader in skin care and has been trusted by women for over 60 years, maintaining its founding philosophy: to maintain a deep understanding of women’s changing needs and to combine products that fit their needs with the latest advances in skin care technology. Regenerist was created along those lines to address women’s anti-aging needs, and millions of women have tried it and loved it, making Regenerist the #1 anti-aging moisturizer.
