Yesterday when I picked up my 5-year-old from camp, the teenage girl working the aftercare exclaimed: “I love your outfit! It’s so ’70s!” (I was wearing basically this.) I took it as a compliment, of course, since the ’70s look is what I’m drawn to and it’s my comfort zone. Then I got to thinking, […]

What to Wear on the Plane for a Tropical Vacation
Often when we jet off to a tropical locale, we’re leaving from a much chillier clime. The weather we’re met with is usually an improvement, but if we’re dressed for the cold, the transfer from plane to hotel can be most unpleasant. I’m heading to Jamaica for the first time—I am on the plane as […]

Handkerchief Hems, Stevie Nicks and You
When I spied this handkerchief hem dress in Alyssa-Nicole’s summer 2017 collection, it was like running into an old friend that I’d had a falling out with regarding something so dumb I couldn’t even remember what it was and being so happy to see her and become friends again. Stevie Nicks was an icon of my youth, […]
Show Your Pride All Summer Long With Stylish Rainbows
The San Francisco Pride celebration is coming up this weekend, and I can’t stop obsessing over rainbows. Luckily, you don’t have to look kitchy and costumy (though that can be fun) to incorporate rainbows into your daily wardrobe rotation. Whether you’ll be IN the parade (like me, so excited), watching it, or just participating in your […]

It’s Friday: Five Things Worth Wrecking Your Stockings
West Coast Craft is THIS weekend. I could literally drain my bank account at this heavenly two-day, expertly-curated craft sale at Fort Mason. These artisans here take “craft” to another level. I’ve gone on about how much I love Good Eggs. I didn’t think my love could grow even stronger but now they DELIVER WINE. Solidarity Sundays […]
Celebrate the Summer of Love in Style
Fifty years ago, the Summer of Love changed everything in fashion. Hems were suddenly ankle-length, hair was long and straight, and silhouettes were voluminous—a swift about-face from the earlier sixties miniskirts, go-go boots and bouffants. For some of us, 1967 is the jumping off point for every outfit we wear. For others, it’s fun to […]
True Religion for Rappers, Moms and Kids
In addition to this blog, I also write a denim blog. Naturally, this means our 16-year-old son intermittently asks when I’m going to collaborate with True Religion jeans. I told him probably never because everyone knows True Religion is for rappers. It’s a great look for 2 Chains, but their marketing team probably isn’t looking for a 40+ hippie mom of two.
