You will rarely see Emmanelle Alt not wearing jeans and a T-shirt. It’s what she pairs with that most basic of canvases that makes her one of the most stylish women in the world. Her job title as editor-in-chief of Paris Vogue adds to her caché, of course, and it’s what gives her access to those impossibly pointy-shouldered blazers from a few years back (years before everyone else started wearing them) and the Mongolian lamb jackets that would keep folks in the iciest Siberian provinces toasty. And the shoes! So strappy they look like someone’s laying cat’s cradle on her foot. Booties so high they place her already-towering stature firmly in intimidating territory.
Not that she needs height for that. Her seated presence was plenty daunting when I had the thrill of photographing her at New York fashion week a few years back. Of all the celebrities to stalk, I only had eyes for her. And I found myself seated directly across from her (a few rows higher of course) at a runway show. My fashion buddy Grace insisted I and ask for a picture, but I felt shy, awkward, and like I might throw up. Finally, when I feared the lights would go down and the show would start and it would be too late, I walked across the runway, stood directly in front of her with my shiny new SLR, and said: Would you mind if I took your photograph? She looked directly at me and without saying anything let me know I better take it quick. I snapped, said “merci beaucoup!” and skipped back to my seat. I pulled up the LCD screen to show Grace. It was black. No flash. My nausea became deep sorrow.
But when I got on the computer and manipulated the photo, I was able to at least add enough light to reveal Alt’s steely gaze (see above). I figure if I can manage to take a photo (even if I forgot the flash) while faced with that expression, I can do a lot of things. (Also, Grace took a much better one, using a zoom lens, below.)
Then in February, the Paris Vogue released the video below to celebrate the launch of their website redesign. In it, Alt lip synchs to Wham!’s 1984 hit “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go.” She and one of her editors and a bunch of models air guitar and play back-up singers and get all the moves just right. I did the exact same thing (with lower production quality) as a teenager! And since being silly and fashion are two of my favorite things, Ms. Alt has no competition as my number one top most favorite of all time celebrity style icon.
We think its tremendous popularity is proof that the 2012 Corolla offers the ideal blend of comfort, value and safety. In it, you’ll find a surprising number of high-end features, like available Display Audio system. It offers remarkable performance and fuel efficiency, plus an impressive list of standard safety features. Factor in its legendary reliability, and it’s even more apparent that Corolla is the smart choice.
