Do you see what we see? Those appear to be perfectly normal lines on Robin Wright’s forehead in this ad for Gerard Darel scanned from French Vogue’s September issue. There are also a few around her eyes. Gasp! Presumably such natural phenomena are permissible in French magazines. You can’t deny she looks gorgeous, despite (or perhaps because of) the lack of retouching.
We don’t for a second imagine that French Vogue never retouches, but they seem use Photoshop responsibly. It’s refreshing in the Kate Moss editorial spread to see (again, perfectly normal) discernible pores, and in Marion Cotillard’s feature we see the expected creases in flesh that one would expect when the body assumes certain poses, but which would likely be banished with the swipe of a mouse from American magazines. So many reasons to love French Vogue! And we didn’t even mention the proliferation of bare breasts. No comment on the cigarettes and guns.
