As much as I hate to admit it, high heels and taking care of a baby don’t mix terribly well. I wore my Rick Owens booties to pick up baby girl (BGtm) at the hospital when she was four days old because it seemed important to wear my favorite shoes on such a momentous occasion. While holding her for the first time then maneuvering her teeny-tininess into the car, I realized that the ability to move with agility is rather more important than aesthetics when it comes to newborn care. Go figure!
So I am trying to make peace with comfortable shoes, and even though I’m typically not a fan of flats, these Blu Kicks slip on sneaks ($58) were perfect for Labor Day weekend beachy activities that involved carrying BGtm. I love the preppy blue and white stripes, and the insoles have textured cushioning that you just can’t complain about. Bonus: Blu Kicks’ San Francisco-based founders, mother and son team Victoria and Willy (that’s pretty cute no?) are dedicated to doing good as well as making fun kicks. They were inspired to start the company by the plight of the overfished Hawaiian humuhumunukunukuapua and its resemblance to a sneaker. So the shoes are made from non-dyed recycled canvas and natural rubber, and the company gives $1 for each pair sold to two environmental charities: For the Fishes and WildAid.
Note: The women’s shoes all run a full size large. I typically wear a 6.5 and my size 6 Blu Kicks are a little big. Don’t be afraid to go the full size down!
Note #2: Blu Kicks sent me this cute pair gratis. Check out my gifting and sponsored post policy!
Also wearing: Trusty old AG skinnies, these are similar; All Saints tank, this one’s almost the same; turquoise beaded hippie earrings, these are like them but even prettier; silver H&M sweater, this Diesel one is even more rad.
