This past weekend was bleak with horrible riots in Virginia, idiotic statements from our president, extra heavy fog, and a literal punch in the face for me (more on that soon). So here’s just a moment of color before I go back to contemplating the evils of the world.
Finnish textile and clothing brand Marimekko has been a favorite of mine for a very long time. I still have a bedspread that was a Crate + Barrel collab from the early 2000’s, I have a few wall hangings, and had a skirt that I hung onto for at least a decade until it was clear that the thing would never fit me again.
So I was super excited to learn about the brand’s collaboration with Anthropolgie. After reviewing an archive of more than 3,500 prints, Marimekko designers selected pieces from the 1960’s and 1970’s to revive and reinterpret. The capsule collection includes four dresses and a skirt that are near-exact replicas of he original designs, plus 11 contemporary pieces (one of which I’m wearing here) that are modern interpretations.
I liked the voluminous top with this body-con skirt from Two Feathers, and the colors worked!
I interviewed one of Marimekko’s veteran designers for Forbes about the design process for this collection as well as a bit about the company’s aesthetic and history. Check it out here!
Some pieces are still available at select Marimekko and Anthropologie stores, as well as at Anthropologie and Marimekko online. More details on what I’m wearing below!
WEARING: Marimekko x Anthropologie top (sold out), Two Feathers skirt, Rick Owens booties, similar but black on sale here, vintage sunglasses, Shashi Camille earrings; vintage orange clutch.
