I have gotten super lazy about my makeup. And that was A-OK with me until this morning when I was cleaning out my mess of a makeup cabinet and found a blue eyeliner pencil and had to make a Konmari decision. Did I love this little blue eyeliner? I decided the answer was no and chucked it.
And this is my problem with Konmari: now all I can think about is that blue eyeliner. Vis-a-vis 2017: The Year of the Edit, how could I be so dismissive of something as jubilant as blue eyeliner? Perhaps that particular cobalt shade was not for me. But I do think a purplish shade, burgundy or a nice plum, perhaps, might suit me. And maybe a bit of gold or mossy green?
My issue with eye makeup is that I’ve historically been afraid it will accentuate the lines around my eyes. Well, in this year of the edit, we are ejecting things like Fear of Eyeliner. It’s now on the cutting room floor where it belongs. I should also probably get rid of that stub of brown eye pencil that’s too small to hold anymore, and that white one that I have never used should also probably go.
But suddenly I’m excited about eyeliner! I’m starting with pencils because to me they are the easiest to wield. They are a tool in and of themselves (no brush required), and I have been holding pencils since I was four years old so they’re not too terribly intimidating. And look at all the beautiful colors there are to choose from!
The Satiny Navy Blue in this collection of Makeup Forever Aqua XL eye pencils ($21) is intriguing. They come in 20 colors, and they won Allure’s Best of Beauty award for 2016!
I’m obsessed with the greens in this collection of Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On eye pencils ($20). And the gold!
Bobbi Brown is one of the most trusted names in beauty, and I’ve owned a black and brown version of her eyeliner gel for almost 10 years. I love it but I don’t love hunting for my angled brush every time I want to use it. The brand’s new Long-Wear Eye Pencil ($26)is the gel in pencil form, yay! And the Black Plum shade is a nice entree into the world of colorful eyeliner.
The Forever Green in this collection of MAC Powerpoint eye pencils ($17) would take me out of my comfort zone in a good way.
