Where do our fashion urges come from? I’m often mystified by suddenly wanting to bring something into my style profile. Sometimes it’s obvious, like you see wide-legged culottes everywhere and you just have to have them. Other times you’re stricken by an obsession with the eyewear of your whole-life role model: in my case Gloria Steinem, and you’re not quite sure where that came from.
The latter is what I was feeling when it came to my sudden fascination with aviator eyeglasses. I’ve worn the style for decades as sunglasses, but a few months ago I took to the web in search of a pair I could wear all day as my glasses for seeing—and while many people have asked me if I actually need them, trust me, I can’t see much of anything without them.
My prescription is complicated, which makes buying glasses expensive, so I was on the hunt of the cheapest options for prescription gold aviators I could find. I ended up at GlassesUSA with their Florence model. With my prescription they still cost close to $300 (but right now you can get 35% off your entire order with code ALL35!).
The funny thing was, after I started wearing my new glasses, I saw them everywhere. So maybe there was something more to my choice than Gloria Steinem admiration. Was it a trend subtly building and influencing the recesses of my brain unbeknownst to my conscious self? In any case I’m having a lot of fun with them and I love seeing the style pop up on my Instagram, Pinterest pages, and in street style roundups. Check out some recent sightings below.
