Patricia Curtan is an artist, designer, and printmaker who has been creating menus for Alice Waters’ famed Chez Panisse restaurant for 40 years! So it makes sense that she’s collected enough menu art for a book. She first started hand printing menus as a Chez Panisse cook. She uses letterpress and linoleum-block prints on paper to created the beautiful works you see below. Several menus were made for special dinners for the likes of Julia Child, Hillary Clinton, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and James Beard.
And if you’d like to meet Curtan in person, you can get your copy signed at her book signing on October 22, from 2:00 to 4:00pm at March, 3075 Sacramento St. It will be a great way to experience Berkeley’s most famous restaurant, minus the calories! (Though I would recommend actually eating there as well whenever possible, it’s extra special.)
