I first spied the amazing Cass Clutch on Instagram and became immediately obsessed—no surprise since it so strongly evokes that chic 70s style that gets me every time, with its simple shape, buttery soft suede and rich, earthy colors.
A few clicks later, I discovered that designer Debra Szidon was indeed inspired by a well-love vintage clutch in her closet. It was on its last legs and she wanted a modern, useful version. Hence, the Cass (a nickname that both Debra and her father and have gone by) Clutch was born.
Turns out we have a few friends in common, and we became fast friends ourselves. She paid me a visit in Pacifica recently, and we created three styles to pair with the bag, which is incredibly versatile. Carry it during the day—there’s plenty of room for books and/or a laptop. At night, fold it over and tuck it under your arm. And the carry handle is large enough to slip your entire forearm through if you find yourself needing to use both hands!
Hopefully the extreme high-quality of the bag comes through in the photos—but holding it in your hands leaves no room for doubt. The suede is durable and weighty, yet soft and malleable. The leather trim is heavy-duty but refined. It’s a bag that will only get better with age.
Debra also happens to be the woman behind Cocoon Home—one peek at her interior creations and it’s pretty clear we’re design soul mates in more ways than one.

Casually Elegant
This is a perfect chill outfit for a casual work day and can easily transition to an evening drink with friends. And if the evening called for something fancier, I would simply duck into the bathroom and remove the jeans (oh, and I would wear shoes)!
