I’ve been at this mom thing for a year and a half now, and Frida, who’s now 18 months old, has created all manner of messes during our time together. A bib mitigates some of the disaster, but some bibs are better than others. Before Frida even came into our lives, we were the lucky recipients of a truck full (literally) of hand-me-downs from generous friends who were moving and getting rid of much of their now three-year-old’s stuff. Among the mountain of goods was a single, apparently never used, Funkie Baby bib. Initially, I loved it because it was adorable—the fabric was decorated with little cowgirls and cowboys riding horses. I loved that it was unisex and non-stereotypical.
When I used it I noticed the fabric was soft, and it kept moisture away from the missy. A quick search revealed the Funkie Baby website, where I learned the bibs are made of two layers of fabric with plastic in between. So it’s the best of both worlds: the comfort of fabric (on both sides) and the protection of plastic.
If you’re thinking fabric is a pain to clean, I have to say I HATE trying to clean plastic bibs. They’re slimy and it’s impossible to get all the grossness out of the front pocket. Trying to find a place to let it dry also makes me crazy. I can just throw the Funkie Baby bib in the washing machine, or give it a rinse in the sink if the damage isn’t so bad. Plus the designs are super cute—my favorites are the hedgehogs and the cowgirls/cowboys. They also sell changing mats, “burpies,”hats, and “vintage vest bibs (!).” I might have to give the latter a try, how cute is that? Also, everything is reversible.
Never did I think I’d be moved enough about a baby bib to write a blog post, but there you have it. Do you guys have a favorite bib? I’d love to hear about it!
