If you’ve been reading my blog at all, you may have noticed that I’m a tad obsessed with Emmanuelle Alt. I’ve raved about her style and she’s the inspiration for my bagless blogger experiment. So when I saw her walking into the Carlos Miele runway show, the same show I was entering, I got a little giddy. When I found my seat, she was right across the aisle, just sitting there (alongside Suzy Menkes) looking like she wanted me to take her picture. I was terrified, but I knew I’d regret it if I didn’t ask her for a photo. Grace Sun (also check out her awesome blog Mama is Haute), my partner in crime this fashion week, encouraged me to man up and go for it. So I walked up to her, shaking in my platforms, and asked for a photo. She silently nodded and looked like she wanted to rip my head off. I quickly took the photo, smiled and said thank you (I think she smiled back just a tiny bit), and rushed back to my seat. When I checked out the photo, it was black. The flash hadn’t gone off. I managed to lighten it enough (see above) that she’s recognizable — I’m telling myself it’s kind of arty? Luckily Grace took a much better one, below. What have we learned from my mistake? ALWAYS check the photo before you walk away from your subject — especially if they’re a VIP!
