So last year I was all about being a hippie at Outside Lands music festival. But this year I’m shirking the flower crowns and maxi dresses for denim, leather and studs. I’m still a hippie at heart, but this year I’m covering the festival for the blog you see before you as well as Racked SF, so I felt like I needed a bit of an armor to stay on my toes and be ready for anything.
I wore the following: Rock & Republic jeans, booties so old that I don’t remember the brand and it’s rubbed off, a silk jersey House of Hengst top that’s an all-time fave, and my Gar-de leather jacket. I hope I looked like a chic rocker but I guess we’ll never know since I didn’t get any photos of my outfit. Apparently I was prepared for everything but that!
We also saw Band of Horses, who are the only hillbillies who can make me swoon; The National, who are delicious; and the amazing Sir Paul McCartney was the headliner. He broke out a TON of Beatles faves, plus the beautiful “Maybe I’m Amazed,” which he wrote for Linda and one he wrote for John and they both made everyone cry.
Live and Let Die was accompanied by the explosive light show you see below.
Stay tuned for day 2! We have a big lineup: Social Studies (from SF!), the Kopecky Family Band, Milo Greene, Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Grizzly Bear and Phoenix on our want-to-see lists. Between the continuously flowing beer and copious seating available in the press tent, plus already being freaking tired from yesterday, getting to all of these will be a challenge but we’ll do our darnedest.
